The Toronto Maples Leafs sent defenseman Jordan Schmaltz to the New York Islanders in exchange for forward Matt Lorito, the team announced Monday.

Schmaltz, 26, was a former first-round pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2012. He never suited up for the Leafs but registered 13 points in 37 games with the AHL's Toronto Marlies this season.

Lorito, who has played two games in the NHL, joins defenseman Calle Rosen as the only players to be acquired on a quiet trade-deadline day for the Maple Leafs.
