Rangers' Calhoun diagnosed with fractured jaw after HBP vs. Dodgers

Texas Rangers outfielder Willie Calhoun suffered a fractured jaw after being hit in the face by a fastball from Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Julio Urias during Sunday's Cactus League game, according to Rangers executive vice president of communications John Blake.

Calhoun stayed down for a few minutes before eventually standing up with a towel to his face. The outfielder needed to be carted off the field and was taken to St. Joseph's hospital in Phoenix, where a CT scan revealed the fracture. Calhoun will undergo further testing Monday.

Urias and Calhoun were teammates with the Oklahoma City Dodgers in 2017 before the latter was traded to the Rangers as part of a package for right-hander Yu Darvish.

"I wasn't myself after that," Urias later told Bill Plunkett of The OC Register regarding the first-inning HBP. The left-hander also said he asked Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor for Calhoun's phone number in order to check in, adding, "he's going to be in my prayers."

Calhoun, 25, is competing for an Opening Day job in the Rangers' outfield. Over 83 games last year, the former fourth-round pick hit .269/.323/.524 with 21 homers.
