Ranking Tiger's Masters performances: 22-16
In this three-part series, theScore will rank all 22 of Tiger Woods' Masters performances.
Tiger's reign as the defending Masters champion is extended until at least November with the postponement of this year's event, which provides us the opportunity to look back at the five-time winner's historic career at Augusta National.
However, things haven't always come up azaleas (get it?) for Tiger at Augusta. He didn't necessarily flourish as an amateur and struggled during the down years of his career.
Here are Tiger's worst performances at the Masters:
22. 1996 (Cut)
Tiger's only missed cut in 22 trips to Augusta National was in 1996. The then-20-year-old came up four shots shy of making the weekend during his second appearance as an amateur.
21. 2012 (T40)
While he wasn't the dominant golfer of years past, Tiger's attempt in 2012 was still a massive flop. Woods had just won the Arnold Palmer Invitational before turning in his worst result at Augusta as a pro.
20. 2018 (T32)
Yes, 2018 was only the start of Tiger's remarkable comeback, but expectations were still high at his first Masters since 2015. Woods entered the event after finishing 12th at the Honda Classic, runner-up at the Valspar Championship, and tied for fifth at Bay Hill. Tiger's 2018 result is the second-worst of his pro career.
19. 2004 (T22)
It's fitting that one of Tiger's least memorable Masters results came in what was arguably his worst season on the PGA Tour during the peak of his career. He claimed only one Tour victory in '04 and didn't sniff contention at Augusta.
18. 2003 (T15)
The weakest of Tiger's four Masters title defenses came in 2003 when Canadian Mike Weir earned the green jacket. Woods managed to claw his way back with a third-round 66 after opening with a 76, but he shot 3-over on Sunday to drop out of the mix.
17. 1999 (T18)
Two years removed from winning his first green jacket, Tiger turned in a mediocre showing - by his standards - in 1999. He rebounded from the hiccup by winning eight times, including the PGA Championship, to close out his year.
16. 1995 (T41)
Tiger made his first Masters appearance while still a freshman at Stanford University. The 19-year-old amateur turned heads by leading the field in driving distance in his debut at Augusta. He finished tied for 41st to secure low-amateur honors.
