Redskins select Chase Young No. 2 overall
The Washington Redskins selected defensive end Chase Young out of Ohio State with the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Young, the consensus top player in this year's class, was widely projected to join Washington under new head coach Ron Rivera. A number of teams were reportedly interested in trading up for the No. 2 slot but the Redskins opted to stay put.
The star pass-rusher led Division I with 16.5 sacks in 2019 en route to capturing the Bronko Nagurski Trophy as college football's premier defensive player. A number of evaluators called him one of the top prospects in recent years.
Young will join a star-studded defensive line under Rivera, which features former first-rounders Jonathan Allen, Da'Ron Payne, and Montez Sweat.

Bottom line
Young's an elite pass-rushing prospect. He showed off a wide assortment of NFL-ready traits at Ohio State and shouldn't have issues transitioning to the next level. He's already an advanced pass-rusher with the tools to beat opposing offensive tackles in a variety of ways, and he's no slouch against the run, either. Young's the best defensive player in this draft, and one of the most complete prospects in the past several years.
