PGA Tour memo states play could resume 'with or without fans'

The PGA Tour sent a memo Thursday to players as it continues to navigate through a hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic, according to Golf Channel.

It stated that play could resume "with or without fans," though there's no clear date as to when that return may happen.

"We are evaluating other options that allow us to preserve the maximum number of events we can while giving us more time as the crisis evolves," the PGA Tour stated.

The Tour also ensured that players will be given proper notice to train and prepare for a return.

"We understand many of you may be impacted by travel restrictions and/or the inability to practice in your area, thus we want to be able to give you as much time as possible to allow you to come back fully prepared," it stated.

The PGA Tour began cancellations after the first round of The Players Championship in March. All tournaments through May 10 have been postponed or canceled entirely.

On April 6, the Tour announced a tentative schedule that features the PGA Championship in August, the U.S. Open and Ryder Cup in September, and the Masters in November. This year's Open Championship was canceled outright on Monday.

The Tour will meet with the players' advisory board April 14 to further discuss the situation.
