Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum is unsure about plans to reopen NBA practice facilities over the next few weeks.
"I am worried like the rest of the world, but I like that it is optional and I'm pleased with the caution, structure, and measures the Blazers organization has put in place to ensure the safest environment possible for all parties involved," McCollum told Yahoo's Chris Haynes.
Portland is one of three teams so far that have announced plans to reopen their facilities on Friday with rules limiting the number of players and personnel in the building at once.
For his part, McCollum still has some reservations.
"I get the measures (the NBA is) taking, but you have to think at some point when there are drastic measures that need to be taken, is it really worth it? It's either safe or it's not," he said. "And let's just be honest, man, it's not like it will be the first time players got gym access outside of the team's facilities. Some people have been working out, if we're being honest."
On Tuesday, Philadelphia 76ers general manager Elton Brand admitted that players such as Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons have been accessing the team's training facility.
Meanwhile, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said Wednesday that he won't open his team's facility at this time due to the lack of available coronavirus tests for players.
McCollum's Blazers were 29-37 and 3 1/2 games out of the West's final playoff spot when the NBA halted play on March 11 due to the pandemic. It's not known if the regular season will be completed if the league ends up resuming the 2019-20 campaign.
