Report: NBPA polling players on returning this season

Regional representatives of the National Basketball Players Association began texting NBA players Tuesday to ask them if they want to try to play again this season, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Some players were polled in group texts that included their respective teams' entire rosters, while other reps reportedly asked players, "Do you want to try and play this season, yes or no?" and "Do you want the season to start again?"

Officials told players that their responses and identities would be kept confidential.

The NBA and the NBPA hosted a conference call for the league's players on Friday, during which commissioner Adam Silver laid out the challenges in resuming the 2019-20 campaign.

Players' public sentiments on a potential return have varied. LeBron James tweeted at the end of April that players "would like to finish our season." Others such as Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet seem more skeptical.

It is all but certain at this point that any resumption of the season will come without fans in the stands. Multiple reports suggest the NBA has had discussions about creating a quarantine "bubble" to stage games in either Orlando or Las Vegas.
