Braves select Wake Forest southpaw Jared Shuster No. 25 overall
With the 25th overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft, the Atlanta Braves selected Jared Shuster, a left-handed pitcher out of Wake Forest.
Shuster, 21, pushed his fastball up into the 92-94 mph range this season prior to the campaign being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. The southpaw also features a changeup, which is his best pitch, and a slurve that sits low-80s.
In four starts this season, he authored a 3.76 ERA with 43 strikeouts and four walks across 26 1/3 innings.
Shuster failed to impress over his first two seasons with Wake Forest, posting a 7.41 ERA as a freshman and a 6.49 mark as a sophomore. However, the lefty seemed to turn a corner in last year's Cape Cod League, boasting a 1.41 ERA in 32 innings, striking out 35 and walking five.
