Report: Chelsea intensify pursuit of £90M-rated Havertz
Chelsea are moving ahead and trying to secure another major signing out of Germany.
Less than a month after the lucrative inking of Timo Werner, the Blues will intensify their pursuit of Kai Havertz after the Bayer Leverkusen star indicated he wants to join the Premier League club this summer, according to ESPN FC's James Olley.
Although Chelsea have yet to submit an official bid, the club is confident it can strike a deal for a fee significantly lower than Leverkusen's £90 million (€99 million) valuation.
Chelsea will attempt to procure Havertz's services for around £70 million (€77 million), with the versatile 21-year-old, who can serve as a forward or an attacking midfielder, eager to leave the Bundesliga side this summer, Olley adds.
Havertz ended the Bundesliga season as one of the sport's most exciting young stars. He led Leverkusen in scoring with 12 goals while providing six assists in 30 league appearances during a breakout campaign.
Chelsea are understood to be the front-runners to sign the German international after Bayern Munich joined other clubs in pulling out of the race due to the high price tag.
Real Madrid are reportedly the only other possible suitor, even though the Spanish side hasn't expressed an interest yet with a formal offer.
Havertz's possible arrival at Stamford Bridge would mark the third major signing since Chelsea's FIFA transfer ban was reduced in January. Chelsea signed Hakim Ziyech from Ajax in February for a reported €40-million fee (£36 million) before dishing out another €53 million (£47 million) to lure Werner from RB Leipzig in June.
Chelsea are also reportedly interested in Leicester City full-back Ben Chilwell and West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.
