Cardinals cleared to travel, resume play after negative COVID-19 tests

The St. Louis Cardinals have been cleared to travel and resume their season schedule, Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak announced, according to Mark Saxon of The Athletic.

The Cardinals underwent rapid testing for COVID-19 on Tuesday and all tests came back negative, prompting MLB to clear the team to return to action.

Seven Cardinals players and six staff members tested positive for COVID-19 over the last week, including veteran catcher Yadier Molina and shortstop Paul DeJong. The outbreak forced St. Louis to postpone its weekend series against the Milwaukee Brewers, as well as its set against the Detroit Tigers that was supposed to begin Monday.

The Cardinals are now slated to open a series against the Chicago Cubs on Friday at Busch Stadium.

St. Louis went 2-3 through five games before its shutdown.
