Fields' petition to reinstate Big Ten fall season hits 200K signatures
Justin Fields isn't giving up on a Big Ten fall season just yet.
Ohio State's star quarterback created an online petition calling for the immediate reinstatement of the Big Ten's fall football season, which was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.
"We, the football players of the Big Ten, together with the fans and supporters of college football, request that the Big Ten Conference immediately reinstate the 2020 football season," the petition reads.
"Allow Big Ten players/teams to make their own choice as to whether they wish to play or opt out this fall season," it continues. "Allow Big Ten players/teams who choose to opt out of playing a fall season to do so without penalty or repercussion."
The petition gained over 200,000 signatures within the first day after posting.
Fields has been one of the most vocal high-profile players speaking out against the cancelation of the fall season.
The Buckeyes quarterback and Clemson's Trevor Lawrence also called for the formation of a college football players' union.
Both the Big Ten and Pac-12 are eyeing spring campaigns, while the other three Power 5 conferences are moving ahead this fall as planned.
Fields, who was a Heisman finalist in 2019, is widely expected to be a top-five pick if he enters the 2021 NFL Draft.
