Report: Rangers listening to offers for Lance Lynn
The Texas Rangers are fielding offers from rival teams for right-hander Lance Lynn, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reports.
It's not clear which teams are inquiring about Lynn, and it doesn't appear as though a trade is close to happening.
Lynn joined the Rangers as a free agent last winter and has since exceeded expectations on the mound. Last year, he set career highs in innings pitched, strikeouts, and Ks per nine en route to a fifth-place finish in AL Cy Young voting.
The 33-year-old continues to pitch like a workhorse in 2020. He's thrown an MLB-leading 45 1/3 innings this year and owns a 1.59 ERA (278 ERA+), 3.35 FIP, and 0.86 WHIP with 50 strikeouts, 14 walks, and one complete game. The Rangers ace has completed at least six innings six times this season and surpassed 100 pitches in all seven of his starts.
Lynn's 2.1 WAR, per Baseball-Reference, ranks second among AL pitchers, trailing only Cleveland's Shane Bieber.
Lynn's attractiveness as a trade piece is helped by his team-friendly contract. He's owed approximately $2.518 million over the rest of this season, and will earn just $8 million in the final year of his contract.
MLB's trade deadline is Aug. 31.
