The Chicago Cubs acquired left-handed reliever Andrew Chafin from the Arizona Diamondbacks for a player to be named later or cash, the team announced.

Chafin, who will be a free agent at season's end, is currently on the 10-day injured list with a finger injury. It's thought that he'll be ready to return in a couple of weeks, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Arizona is also paying the rest of Chafin's salary to the minimum, Heyman reports.

The 30-year-old has spent his entire career to date in Arizona, where he's mostly served as a dependable bullpen arm on several contending teams. Chafin's averaged over 10 strikeouts per nine innings pitched in four of his seven big-league seasons and has held left-handed batters to a .616 OPS.

Chafin's had a rough go of it in 2020, however. Before getting hurt, he was pitching poorly, and he currently owns an 8.10 ERA and 1.95 WHIP with 10 walks and four strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings.

Once he's healthy, he'll add another much-needed southpaw arm to the Cubs' bullpen alongside Kyle Ryan. His presence would also allow Jose Quintana to potentially move back into the starting rotation.

To make room for Chafin on the 40-man roster, Chicago designated outfielder Ian Miller for assignment.
