TV drama to be based on HOFer, funeral home owner Andre Dawson
Andre Dawson's post-MLB career as a funeral home owner has inspired a new television series.
CBS is developing a one-hour drama called "Closure" about a baseball Hall of Famer who takes over his uncle's funeral home following the disappearance of his adult son, according to Deadline's Denise Petski. Dawson will serve as a consultant on the show.
"Rocked by his family's loss, he and his three daughters - a homicide detective, coroner and trauma nurse, who each have their own parallel journeys in the business of death - commit themselves to helping others find the peace and closure their family hasn't been able to yet," Petski writes.
Dawson played as an outfielder for the Montreal Expos, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, and Florida Marlins during his 21-year career before retiring in 1996. He entered the funeral business in 2003 when he invested in his younger brother's funeral home and is now the owner and operator of Paradise Memorial Funeral Home in Florida.
