Canadiens sign Toffoli to 4-year, $17M contract
The Montreal Canadiens signed forward Tyler Toffoli to a four-year contract carrying an average annual value of $4.25 million, the team announced Monday.
Toffoli appeared in 68 games last campaign with the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks. After Vancouver acquired him at the trade deadline, the 28-year-old compiled six goals and four assists in 10 games. He recorded 24 goals and 20 assists on the season.
The Los Angeles Kings originally chose the winger in the second round of the 2010 NHL Draft. He was a member of the Stanley Cup-winning team in 2014 and amassed 139 goals with 151 assists in 515 games during his eight-season stint there.
Signing Toffoli marks Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin's second big move during free agency. After trading Max Domi to acquire Josh Anderson, the Canadiens inked Anderson to a seven-year, $38.5-million deal.
