Report: Minshew expected to be inactive Week 9 vs. Texans
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew is expected to be inactive for the team's Week 9 game against the Houston Texans, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Minshew is dealing with multiple fractures and a strained ligament in his right thumb. Jacksonville is on a bye in Week 8.
Veteran Mike Glennon and rookie Jake Luton were told they will compete for the starting job in practice, Rapoport adds.
Minshew reportedly had discomfort in his thumb since Oct. 11, but Jacksonville wasn't aware of the injury until this week.
The second-year passer's drop in accuracy could be linked to the injury. The slump led to Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone saying it's possible his signal-caller could be benched in the future.
Jacksonville is currently tied at the bottom of the AFC South at 1-6.
