Russell Wilson producing film about 1950s high school football team
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has a new off-field project in the works.
Wilson and his production company West2East Empire are developing "Braddock," a movie about the Pittsburgh-area Braddock High School football team and their pursuit of the all-time national high school winning streak in the late 1950s, according to Anthony D'Alessandro of Deadline. The film is based on the Greg Nichols book "Striking Gridiron."
"As a professional athlete, I know the power that sports can have in the world beyond the playing field," Wilson said in a statement. "I am truly excited to be a part of this extraordinary project because it reminds us that sports can shape and inspire not just people, but entire communities in a way that very few other things can."
Joshua Jackson will star as Braddock Tigers coach Chuck Klausing and Kate Bosworth will portray Klausing's wife, Joann. Gregory Caruso will direct the film.
