Report: LeMahieu's agent seeking 5-year, $100M deal for client
DJ LeMahieu is looking to score in free agency.
The infielder's agent is seeking a five-year, $100-million contract for his client, according to YES Network's Jack Curry.
Curry believes the New York Yankees have the "inside track" on signing LeMahieu but adds New York might not "want to swim as deep into those waters" regarding price and term. This isn't the first report that LeMahieu's camp is seeking a five-year deal.
LeMahieu, 32, hit .364 for the Yankees last season to win his second batting title. He's one of baseball's top free agents after finishing third in 2020 American League MVP voting.
The native of California previously said he's interested in remaining with the Bronx Bombers after two spectacular campaigns in New York.
"I want to stay here. I've said that a few times," LeMahieu said in September. "You never know how it goes. I thought I was going to stay in Colorado and I didn't. So, obviously, I'm hoping to be back here. You just never know how it goes."
The Yankees could have competition for his services, however. LeMahieu is also reportedly drawing interest from the New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, and Washington Nationals.
