Westbrook collaborates with artists of color on latest signature shoe
Washington Wizards point guard Russell Westbrook has unveiled his fourth signature sneaker, the Jordan Why Not? Zer0.4, just in time for the start of the 2020-21 NBA season.
Westbrook shared on Twitter that he partnered with BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) artists on the shoe's first four colorways to help express the meaning behind his "Why Not?" mantra.
The artists - Coin Parking Delivery, Chris Burnett, Darien Birks, and Karabo Poppy - were tasked with creating designs inspired by Westbrook's values and priorities: "upbringing," "family," and "trust and loyalty," according to Jordan Brand.
"The African American community is obviously very important to me, and being a Black man in today's society is something that I cherish and own," Westbrook said. "We have to find ways to impact our youth, and tap into whatever it is they do - whether it's art, sports, or medicine. It's been very inspiring for me to be able to do that through shoes and these artists' commissions."
The four Why Not? Zer0.4 colorways are set to release on Jan. 6.
