Gronk releasing digital trading cards
Rob Gronkowski is getting involved in the trading card craze.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end revealed he's releasing a set of limited edition, virtual trading cards called the Championship Series NFT Collection. NFT stands for non-fungible token, which is a unique asset that can't be duplicated.
"I think having digital trading cards now is just gonna be unique and it's gonna blow it out of the water," Gronkowski told TMZ Sports. "Actual trading cards, I think will always be there, but I think it's leading towards a way where everything's digital."
The collection will consist of five cards celebrating Gronkowski's Super Bowl championships with the New England Patriots and Bucs. Each card is limited to 87 editions, with the exception of a one-of-one Career Highlight Refractor card signed by Gronkowski.
The cards will be auctioned off through NFT marketplace OpenSea.io beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. The winner of the Refractor card will also have the opportunity to attend a Bucs game next season and meet Gronkowski.
