Poirier: McGregor didn't follow through on $500K donation
The trilogy fight between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor is shaping up to be more personal than their rematch was earlier in 2021.
Poirier revealed Sunday on Twitter that McGregor didn't follow through on the charitable donation he promised ahead of UFC 257 in January.
That's a fun prediction! @TheNotoriousMMA you also predicted a donation to my foundation and you and your team stopped responding after the fight in January.

See you soon.
July 10th Paid In Full!
McGregor said during the leadup to their second fight - which the Irishman lost by second-round TKO - that he would donate $500,000 to Poirier's The Good Fight Foundation.
Both sides confirmed during fight week that McGregor had delivered on his promise and the process of beginning to transfer the funds was underway.
We thanked him because his team reached out fight week to initiate the process but ghosted us the past 2 months after the fight. My foundation has reached out 3 times since with no reply. We've moved past it! We will be announcing our next goal soon! Its a big one🙏 https://t.co/mtiOFBsd2q

McGregor responded to Poirier on Twitter, saying his team has been waiting since January for details regarding how his donation would be used.
Before the rematch, the former two-division champion acknowledged that Poirier planned to build an MMA gym for disadvantaged youth in his hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana.
A donation, not a debt. We’ve been awaiting the plans for the money that never came. I do with all my donations. Know where it’s going dot for dot. Otherwise it goes walking. As is the case with a lot of these foundations, sadly. You took the McG over the belt shows I was right.

In the final tweet exchanged between the two lightweights, Poirier reiterated that McGregor's team stopped responding about the donation. He also offered a prediction for their third bout, which is set to headline UFC 264 on July 10.
100% never a debt. You offered, we accepted, and like I said your Team never responded to our emails regarding the process of where funds would be put to work! July 10th you will taste defeat yet Again https://t.co/k3Cu9DG1Me
