Leicester City missed out on a Champions League berth on the final day of a Premier League season in back-to-back campaigns after losing 4-2 to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Foxes were on course for a fourth-placed finish midway through the second half when they led 2-1 and Chelsea were 2-0 down at Aston Villa in their concurrent fixture. But a Kasper Schmeichel own goal and Gareth Bale brace turned the tide in the East Midlands.

Chelsea eventually lost 2-1 at Villa Park due to finishes on either side of the break from Bertrand Traore and Anwar El Ghazi. Ben Chilwell converted at the back post for the Blues' only goal and Cesar Azpilicueta was sent off for the visitors in the closing stages.

Meanwhile, Liverpool had a comfortable afternoon at Anfield as they saw out a rather tame 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace and finished a difficult season in third place. Sadio Mane scored both of the goals on Merseyside.

"A loss never feels good but tomorrow I will take a lot of satisfaction," Chelsea manager Tuchel said, according to BBC Sport. "We reached the objective and congratulations to everyone."

He added on his side's Champions League final against Manchester City next Saturday: "We are still a young team, players fighting for their first trophies, and now we arrive in Porto with full confidence."

In England's other qualification spots, West Ham United will join Leicester in the Europa League after an impressive 3-0 dismissal of Southampton. Tottenham pipped north London rivals Arsenal to a Europa Conference League place, meaning the Gunners will miss out on European football for the first time in 25 years.
