Beal: 76ers fan said something 'crazy' to me near my kids
After a 76ers fan poured popcorn on an injured Russell Westbrook on Wednesday, Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal said he also had a negative experience with a Philadelphia supporter during Game 2.
Beal said a fan who was sitting near his kids said something "crazy" to him, according to Chase Hughes of NBC Sports. The Wizards guard didn't reveal exactly what was said.
"Part of me wanted to go over there and say, 'Who are you talking to? I'm a grown-ass man,'" Beal told reporters postgame. "But I can't do that."
The 76ers won 120-95 at home to take a 2-0 lead in their first-round series versus Washington. However, the result became a secondary story after someone in the crowd dropped popcorn on Westbrook as he was being helped to the locker room in the fourth quarter.
Beal deemed the incident "disgusting," according to Hughes, while Westbrook demanded better protection for players.
On Thursday, the 76ers banned the fan who poured the popcorn indefinitely from all events at the Wells Fargo Center. They also revoked the spectator's season ticket.
Valerie Camillo, the president of business operations for the Wells Fargo Center, denounced the altercation involving Westbrook.
"This was classless, unacceptable behavior, and we're not going to tolerate it at Wells Fargo Center," Camillo said in a statement. "We're proud to have the most passionate fans in the country and the best home-court and home-ice advantage around, but this type of behavior has no place in our arena."
The Wizards will host Game 3 against the 76ers on Saturday.
