Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer is under investigation for allegedly assaulting a woman, Pasadena Police Department Lt. Bill Grisafe told Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.
The woman's attorney, Marc Garelick, said she received a temporary restraining order against Bauer under the Domestic Violence Protection Act. Bauer hasn't been charged with a crime, but police have interviewed him, according to J.P. Hoornstra and Jonah Valdez of the Orange County Register.
"The order is a result of a recent assault that took place at the hands of Mr. Bauer where (the woman) suffered severe physical and emotional pain," Garelick said in a statement to TMZ. "Our goal is to keep Mr. Bauer from contacting our client in any way possible. We anticipate there will be criminal action against Mr. Bauer, and it is our hope law enforcement will take our client’s allegations and case seriously."
Bauer and the woman met twice for sex at his home in Pasadena, California, earlier this year after communicating online, according to TMZ. A police report was filed in May, Grisafe told Hoornstra and Valdez.
He denied the assault allegations through a statement from his agent, Jon Fetterloff, who said both encounters involved fully consensual "rough" sex.
Major League Baseball said it just became aware of the allegations against Bauer and is investigating the matter, according to Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post.
"The Dodgers were made aware of the allegations against Trevor Bauer late this afternoon and immediately contacted Major League Baseball, which will be handling this matter," the team said in a statement obtained by Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times. "The Dodgers take any allegations of this nature very seriously, but will have no further comment at this time."
Bauer, 30, joined the Dodgers as a free agent this past offseason.
