Report: Over half of NFL players on rosters have taken 1st vaccine dose

More than half of the players currently on NFL rosters have taken at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, a source told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Additionally, 16 teams have over 51 players who are fully vaccinated or in the process of receiving their first dose, while at least 95% of first- and second-tier staff are vaccinated on 30 clubs, Pelissero notes.

The vaccination hasn't been deemed mandatory, but the league is providing education and incentives while continuing its efforts to get players vaccinated before the 2021 season.

NFL owners agreed to relax COVID-19 protocols last month for players and staff who have received both doses. Restrictions on gatherings and practices are expected to be loosened for teams with at least 85% of players vaccinated.

Prior to last season, club personnel members were divided into three tiers based on roles. Staff with direct access to players are in Tier 1, those in close proximity to players are in Tier 2, while anyone whose job doesn't require being near players is in Tier 3.

Fully vaccinated players are no longer required to wear a mask at team facilities, though unvaccinated players must continue to wear face coverings indoors and outdoors.
