Wentz to undergo foot surgery, out 5-12 weeks
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz will have his injured foot surgically repaired, keeping him out between 5-to-12 weeks, head coach Frank Reich announced Monday.
"Obviously, we're optimistic and hopeful that we can be on the front end of that (timeline)," Reich said.
Wentz aggravated his foot Thursday toward the end of practice. The Colts sent him to see foot specialist Robert Anderson before deciding he needed a procedure.
Reich said doctors believe Wentz's pain stems from an old injury that could date back as far as high school.
Reich added that Indianapolis will move forward with sophomore Jacob Eason as the starting quarterback. The Colts also have sixth-round rookie Sam Ehlinger and recent free-agent signee Brett Hundley on their roster.
Indianapolis will open the regular season Sept. 12 against the Seattle Seahawks.
