Report: Kemba left $20M on table in Thunder buyout
Kemba Walker walked away from $20 million in guaranteed salary in his buyout agreement with the Oklahoma City Thunder, sources told Spotrac's Keith Smith.
Walker, 31, had two years and roughly $73.7 million left on the four-year contract he inked with the Boston Celtics in 2019. Walker was dealt to OKC in June for a package that brought big man Al Horford back to Boston.
Upon negotiating his buyout last week, Walker reportedly agreed to a two-year contract with his hometown New York Knicks valued at $16-18 million - a few million less than his reported buyout figure with the Thunder.
The four-time All-Star offered a mixed bag in Boston. In two seasons, he averaged just under 20 points, five assists, and four rebounds per game with 37.2% shooting on threes.
But Walker also missed 45 of 144 regular-season appearances in that span due to injury, including the start of the 2020-21 season and the final games of the team's season-ending postseason loss to the Brooklyn Nets.
