Report: Dolphins, Texans working toward Watson trade
The Miami Dolphins and Houston Texans are working on a Deshaun Watson trade that has a chance to be completed by the end of the week, reports John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
The quarterback has been a healthy scratch for the first six weeks of the season amid police and NFL investigations. Watson is facing lawsuits from 22 women who say he sexually assaulted them or committed sexual misconduct during massage sessions.
Ten of those women also filed criminal complaints against Watson.
If the Dolphins and Texans are unable to complete a deal this week, the two teams reportedly intend to come to an agreement before the Nov. 2 trade deadline.
Miami and Houston have been in discussions about a potential Watson trade for months, and talks recently "intensified into serious negotiations," added McClain.
Houston's potential return for Watson is not yet known. The Texans reportedly rejected an offer of three first-round picks and three third-round picks before April's draft.
The Dolphins are 1-5 this season and seem intent on upgrading at quarterback. Tua Tagovailoa has been a disappointment over the first season-and-a-half of his NFL career after Miami selected him fifth overall in 2020.
Watson, meanwhile, led the NFL with 4,823 passing yards last season and threw a career-high 33 touchdowns.
The 26-year-old would be eligible to play for the Dolphins immediately; the NFL hasn't placed the signal-caller on the commissioner's exempt list, a move that would have prohibited him from playing and practicing.
Watson formally asked for an exit from Houston this offseason before any of the lawsuits were filed. He has a no-trade clause and would have to approve the move.
