Report: Packers, Adams haven't talked contract since July

The Green Bay Packers and star wide receiver Davante Adams haven't had any contract talks since discussions broke off in late July, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Adams is scheduled to become a free agent in March but is more likely to receive the franchise tag, Rapoport reports. The tag would keep Adams off the market and give him and the Packers time to work out a long-term deal.

The 29-year-old, who earned his fifth straight Pro Bowl nod in 2021, has once again been among the league leaders in every major receiving category this season. He ranks second in receptions (106), third in yards (1,362), and third in touchdowns (10) entering Week 17.

Adams recently said Aaron Rodgers' future with Green Bay will influence his decision but "won't be the be-all and end-all." Rodgers could look to move on after unsuccessfully angling for a trade following the 2020 campaign.

The eighth-year veteran wanted to become the highest-paid wideout in the NFL when he and the Packers last discussed an extension. Arizona Cardinals star DeAndre Hopkins owns the top annual average salary at the position, earning $27.25 million per year. The franchise tag is estimated to come in at around $20 million for pass-catchers.

Green Bay drafted Adams in the second round in 2014.
