Report: 49ers rejected offers from Jets, Lions for Deebo Samuel

The New York Jets and Detroit Lions made offers to the San Francisco 49ers in an attempt to acquire All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Friday on "The Pat McAfee Show."

San Francisco ultimately rejected the proposals. The Jets reportedly offered the No. 10 overall selection and pick swaps later in the draft, but they ultimately held on to the pick and selected Ohio State wideout Garrett Wilson.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas declined to detail the conversations about Samuel. "I'm not going to get into discussions," Douglas said after the draft on Thursday, per SNY. "When we were on the clock at 10, we didn't field any calls."

New York has shown interest in multiple veteran wideouts this offseason, including Tyreek Hill, Amari Cooper, and Calvin Ridley.

It's unclear what the Lions were willing to give up in exchange. Detroit ended up trading up to No. 12 to select receiver Jameson Williams.

San Francisco remains steadfast in its stance on not wanting to deal Samuel, who requested a trade earlier in April. The Pro Bowl receiver is apparently unsatisfied with his contract and "wide back" role within the Niners' offense.

"I can't ever imagine wanting to move on from Deebo," 49ers general manager John Lynch said during his pre-draft presser on Monday.

"He's just too good of a player. ... We've got nothing but love for him and nothing but appreciation for what he's brought, but you just don't let guys like that walk. So, I can't envision a scenario where we would (trade him)."

Samuel turned in a career-best season that resulted in 1,770 scrimmage yards - 1,405 receiving, 365 rushing - and 14 total touchdowns in 2021.

While Samuel stayed put in San Francisco, the Tennessee Titans decided to grant fellow 2019 second-rounder A.J. Brown a trade to the Philadelphia Eagles. Brown reportedly received a new four-year, $100-million extension.
