Celtics land Brogdon in trade with Pacers

The Indiana Pacers are trading combo guard Malcolm Brogdon to the Boston Celtics, the player told The Athletic's Jared Weiss on Friday.

Indiana will receive Daniel Theis, Aaron Nesmith, and a 2023 first-round pick in return, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

Boston is also including Nik Stauskas, Malik Fitts, and Juwan Morgan in the deal, according to Wojnarowski. The contracts of the trio were changed to guaranteed so that the deal could work, ESPN's Bobby Marks reports.

"I'm looking to win a championship, that's actually it," Brogdon told Weiss. "In the past, I've worried about stats and numbers and all that. I'm going to Boston and not worrying about that."

The trade cannot go through until July 9 due to a restriction in Morgan's contract, Marks adds.

Brogdon has three seasons left on his contract worth $67.6 million, according to Spotrac. The 29-year-old played three seasons with the Pacers after spending three with the Milwaukee Bucks. The veteran averaged 19.1 points, 5.9 assists, and 5.1 rebounds with Indiana, but injuries prevented him from playing more than 60 games.

With the move, Indiana has now dropped to $31 million below the salary cap, according to Marks.

The Celtics did not use their $17.1-million traded player exception in the deal. They acquired the exception when Evan Fournier was dealt to the New York Knicks in a sign-and-trade last offseason.
