Elton John celebrates Braves' sweep of Mets during concert
The Atlanta Braves received a shoutout from Sir Elton John after sweeping their regular-season series against the New York Mets over the weekend.
The legendary musician briefly paused his concert in Nashville on Sunday night to celebrate the Braves' three-game sweep of their NL East rival.
"Something that makes me very happy tonight, the Braves swept the Mets," John told the crowd at Nissan Stadium.
John, who was born in the London suburb of Pinner, is a huge Braves fan and owns a home in Atlanta. Former Minnesota Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe spoke about John's love of the Braves after meeting him in 2016.
"People said he's a big baseball fan, but I was like, 'C'mon. He's from England and all that,'" Plouffe said. "But sure enough, he's lived in Georgia for more than 20 years and watched the Braves, so that's how he learned about baseball. He became a Braves fan right as they went on that run (in the '90s)."
With their 5-3 victory over the Mets on Sunday, the Braves hold a two-game lead in the division with three games left to play.
