Macklemore: Adam Silver 'on board' with bringing NBA team back to Seattle
Rapper and Seattle native Macklemore is confident the NBA will make its return to his home city within the next few years.
During an appearance on ESPN's "NBA Today" on Monday, Macklemore was asked to make a plea to NBA commissioner Adam Silver to bring a franchise back to Seattle. Macklemore didn't think a plea was needed, though, saying he believes Silver is already "on board" with the idea.
"I think that Adam knows that we are absolutely ready," he said. "The Climate Pledge (Arena) is teed up for a team, and that there's not really a plea necessary. I think that Adam is on board. It's a matter of time. I think within the next two-to-three years, we will have a team here in the city."
Macklemore, who's part of the ownership group of the NHL's Seattle Kraken, went on to say he thinks the rest of the NBA is on board with the idea, too.
"I think the world is ready; I think the rest of the league is ready. The players want it," he said. "We have a historic city in terms of basketball. It's a shame that we don't have a professional team, and Adam's on board."
Seattle has been without an NBA franchise since the conclusion of the 2007-08 season when the SuperSonics relocated to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder.
Silver stated earlier this year that it's "invariable at some point the league will expand" but that it wasn't something the NBA is currently discussing.
