Report: Gonzaga in talks to join Big 12
Gonzaga athletic director Chris Standiford met with Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark last week about the basketball powerhouse joining the conference, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel.
The Zags are considering leaving the West Coast Conference after more than 40 years. Gonzaga has dominated the conference, winning the regular-season title in 21 of the last 23 seasons under long-time head coach Mark Few.
Yormark said earlier this year that the Big 12 would be aggressive and "open for business" regarding expansion options after Oklahoma and Texas announced their departures from the conference.
If Gonzaga joins the Big 12, it would enter a conference with reigning national champion Kansas and 2021 champion Baylor.
The Zags have made it to the Elite Eight four times during Few's tenure, including appearances in the national championship game in 2017 and 2021.
