Bruins set NHL record with 12th straight home win to start season
The Boston Bruins set a new NHL record by downing the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 on Friday for their 12th consecutive home win to start the season.
Beantown star David Pastrnak had the honor of setting the benchmark when he scored on Hurricanes netminder Pyotr Kochetkov on the man advantage in overtime.
"There's been a lot of great teams in this league and you're able to set a precedent and break a record," Boston head coach Jim Montgomery told reporters postgame. "It's pretty special. It doesn't happen if those guys don't believe in themselves like they do."
The Bruins trailed 2-0 in the opening frame following power-play goals from Stefan Noesen and Jesperi Kotkaniemi, but veteran David Krejci struck in the second and third periods to tie things up for the home side.
Pastrnak extended his point streak to nine games with a helper on Krejci's first goal of the game.
However, it wasn't all good news for Boston on Friday. Goaltender Linus Ullmark left the contest in the third period with an upper-body injury after Bruins defenseman Connor Clifton fell on him.
Jeremy Swayman entered the game in Ullmark's stead and made six saves in relief.
The Bruins' dominance at TD Garden this season can't be overstated, with the club outscoring its opponents 48-20.
Boston still has three games remaining on its current homestand. Its next chance to build on the record will come Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
