Madueke joins Chelsea from PSV for reported €35M fee
Chelsea opened the checkbook once again Friday, signing Noni Madueke from PSV Eindhoven for a reported €35-million (£30-million) fee.
The 20-year-old signed a seven-and-a-half-year contract in west London.
"I'm really pleased to sign with one of the best clubs in the world in Chelsea," Madueke said in a statement. "To return to England and play in the Premier League is a dream for me and my family, and I can't wait to get started. I am excited for what the future holds, the owner's vision for the future, and to be at a club like this and winning at the highest level."
A native of Barnet, England, Madueke played for Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur's youth teams before joining PSV in 2018. He started just two Eredivisie matches this season after missing the beginning of the season with an ankle injury, but his overall record of 11 goals and seven assists over 51 league appearances for PSV - 30 as a substitute - hint at the promise that persuaded Chelsea to take their January spending beyond £170 million after add-ons.
As a left-footed attacker, Madueke will provide competition for Mykhailo Mudryk in the Chelsea squad. Ukrainian winger Mudryk, 22, was signed from Shakhtar Donetsk last weekend for a fee that could rise to €100 million if various clauses are met.
Since Todd Boehly's consortium took control of Chelsea last May, the club has spent well over £430 million on new players, including bonuses tied into some of the transfers.
