Jackie Robinson's name misspelled on NYC road sign
A road sign honoring Jackie Robinson in New York City attracted attention this week for spelling the legendary baseball player's name incorrectly.
Drivers traveling on the Jackie Robinson Parkway in the borough of Queens noticed that Robinson's first name had been misspelled as "Jakie" on the road sign, according to the New York Post.
"This spelling mistake is absurd," New York City Council member Robert Holden told the Post. "You don't have a few eyes looking at these signs? (The Department of Transportation) is a mess."
New York City Department of Transportation spokesperson Scott Gastel told the Associated Press that the sign was replaced with a new one Monday.
Robinson made history in 1947 when he broke baseball's color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.
The Jackie Robinson Parkway, formerly known as Interboro Parkway, was renamed in Robinson's honor in 1997 to mark the 50th anniversary of his MLB debut.
