Brewers looking to trade former top prospect Hiura

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Keston Hiura will not make the club's Opening Day roster and the team will now look trade him, general manager Matt Arnold said Friday, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.

Hiura is out of minor-league options and would be subjected to waivers if the Brewers are unable to find a trade partner.

The 26-year-old was Milwaukee's top-ranked prospect in 2017 and 2018, according to MLB Pipeline.

Hiura's best season came as a rookie in 2019. He hit .303 with a .938 OPS, belting 19 home runs and 23 doubles over just 84 games. Hiura has struggled to recapture that form, slashing just .205/.293/.394 with 31 home runs, 83 RBIs, and 21 doubles over the past three seasons.

Arnold added that veteran outfielder Tyler Naquin won't be on the Opening Day roster. The Brewers signed Naquin to a minor-league contract in February. Naquin is free to opt out of his minor-league deal, but Arnold kept the door open for him to stay with the organization at Triple-A if he wanted, according to McCalvy.
