MLB announces 2024 World Tour: Dodgers, Padres to open season in Korea
The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres will open 2024 with a two-game series in Seoul, South Korea on March 20-21, the league announced Wednesday as part of a World Tour series.
It will be the first time Major League Baseball plays games in Korea.
The league has previously opened the season with international games on eight separate occasions. Most recently, the 2019 regular season kicked off for the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners with a two-game set in Tokyo, Japan.
"Major League Baseball is incredibly excited for this extensive slate of international games in 2024," commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. "Our recent efforts have produced strong enthusiasm around the globe, and we look forward to building on that foundation with returns to Mexico City and London, while also opening the season in Korea for the first time."
The festivities will kick off on March 9-10 with the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays playing exhibition spring-training games in the Dominican Republic.
Midseason contests will also take place, with the Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies playing in Mexico City on April 27-28 and the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies playing the 2024 iteration of the London Series contests on June 8-9.
This will mark the second time the league plays its Mexico City Series after the inaugural run earlier this year between the Padres and San Francisco Giants. Meanwhile, this is the third time the league will play midseason games in London.
