Report: Dolphins' Achane likely out weeks with knee injury
Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane is expected to miss multiple weeks after suffering a knee injury in Sunday's win over the New York Giants, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.
The rookie tailback is seeking a second opinion on Tuesday that will determine whether or not Miami places him on injured reserve, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Achane would miss the Dolphins' next four games if he's added to the reserve list.
The Texas A&M product left Sunday's victory having rushed for a team-high 151 yards and a touchdown. Achane has been a focal point of a dynamic offensive attack for the Dolphins since making his debut in Week 2.
The 21-year-old rushed for over 100 yards in three consecutive games, including 203 yards and four touchdowns against the Denver Broncos in Week 3.
Achane leads all Dolphins ball carriers with 460 yards while averaging 115.5 yards per game and a 12.1 yards per carry average in four games.
Known for his blistering speed, Achane posted two of the fastest speeds by a ball carrier so far this season with a 21.76 mph run in Week 5 and a 21.93 mph jaunt in his breakout performance in Week 3, according to the NFL's Next Gen Stats.
Raheem Mostert and Salvon Ahmed are leading candidates to see more snaps in the backfield with Achane sidelined. Miami is also expected to open the 21-day practice window for Jeff Wilson Jr., who began the season on injured reserve, Schefter reports.
