Report: Tigers' Rodriguez plans to opt out, test free agency

Detroit Tigers left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez is planning to opt out of the remaining three years and $49 million remaining on his contract and will become a free agent, sources told Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Rodriguez joined the Tigers on a five-year, $77-million contract in November 2021. The 30-year-old enjoyed a strong season in 2023, posting a 13-9 record with a 3.30 ERA and 143 strikeouts across 152 2/3 innings.

Detroit reached an agreement to trade Rodriguez to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trade deadline, but he used his no-trade clause to block the move, citing family reasons.

Rodriguez spent the first six seasons of his career with the Boston Red Sox before joining the Tigers. He owns a lifetime 82-53 record with a 4.03 ERA in 202 appearances.
