Report: Brewers open to trading any player on their roster
It's been quite a month for the Milwaukee Brewers, and things might get even more hectic.
After trading away Mark Canha and the departure of manager Craig Counsell to the rival Chicago Cubs, the Brewers are open to trading virtually any player on their roster, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
Brewers stars such as Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, and Willy Adames were mentioned as potential trade candidates by Rosenthal.
Burnes, 29, has been involved in trade rumors for more than a year after a contentious arbitration hearing last February ruffled the feathers of the 2021 National League Cy Young winner.
The Brewers have said on multiple occasions they have no intention of dealing their ace, who is a free agent at the end of next season, with GM Matt Arnold saying last month he expects Burnes to start the 2024 season with the club.
Woodruff is also a free agent after the 2024 campaign. He is likely to miss most of next season after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery. The injury makes him a prime non-tender or trade candidate with his salary expected to be $11.6 million through arbitration.
The right-hander recently said he was hopeful to pitch in 2024, but it was too early to tell.
"When I'm looking at it, I'm not rushing it. But yes, there is a roadmap to be able to potentially do that next year," he told Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Adames is also in the final year of his contract with the Brewers.
The 28-year-old is set to earn $12.4 million through arbitration after hitting 24 home runs and 80 RBIs last season.
The shortstop has played well for the Brewers since they acquired him from the Tampa Bay Rays in the middle of 2021, posting a .774 OPS (111 OPS+) with 75 homers in 387 games.
