Pirates, Keller agree to 5-year extension reportedly worth $77M

The Pittsburgh Pirates and right-hander Mitch Keller agreed to a five-year contract extension, the team announced Friday.

The deal is reportedly worth $77 million, according to Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The agreement covers Keller's final two years of arbitration and three free-agent years.

The contract is the second largest in Pirates history, trailing only Bryan Reynolds' eight-year, $106.75-million extension signed in 2023.

Keller put together a breakout 2023 campaign for the Pirates. The 27-year-old posted a 13-9 record with a 4.21 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 210 strikeouts across 194 1/3 innings, making his first All-Star Game.

Keller is expected to lead a Pirates rotation that also features Martín Pérez, Marco Gonzales, Luis L. Ortiz, and Bailey Falter in 2024.
