Why Witt's No. 1: Witt claims the No. 1 spot in our rankings after the Turner's, Bichette's, and Tatis' of the world dominated previous years. The Kansas City Royals infielder put together a fantasy owner's dream season in 2023, hitting 30 homers with 96 RBIs, 28 doubles, 49 steals, and 11 triples (if your league takes those into account). Witt won't do much for your club as far as on-base percentage, but he improved his batting average by 22 points last year compared to his rookie campaign.
Player worth reaching for: Oneil Cruz was the talk of fantasy town ahead of last season after he looked sharp during an 87-game stint in 2022. But a fractured fibula limited his campaign to nine games, leaving owners who drafted him in disarray. The towering shortstop is healthy and has dropped significantly down draft boards but is worth a reach based on potential alone.
Dark-horse pick: If you're looking to outsmart your competition in fantasy with an off-the-board pick, think about grabbing Brayan Rocchio, who's slated to start at shortstop for the Cleveland Guardians this season. The 23-year-old has sneaky power (seven homers, six triples, and 33 doubles in the minors last season) and should give you a lot of steals and potentially high on-base percentage if he can replicate his minor-league success at the major-league level.
