Report: Real Madrid switch focus to Bayern's Davies after Mbappe signing

Real Madrid can never be accused of being content.

Fresh off of signing superstar Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid are expected to rekindle their efforts to sign Bayern Munich and Canada full-back Alphonso Davies, according to ESPN's Alex Kirkl and Rodrigo Faez.

The Champions League winners have been linked with the 23-year-old since January, with ESPN reporting that the two sides have an "excellent" relationship.

There was a reported verbal agreement for Davies to join the club, either this summer via a transfer from Bayern or in 2025 after his contract expires and he can be signed on a free transfer. If a deal were to materialize, Bayern would prefer to sell Davies this summer to avoid losing him for nothing.

Real Madrid are in a hold position for now, as they wait for word from Davies and Bayern after the left-back was offered a new contract to extend his stay in Bavaria.

While Davies is understood to be evaluating Bayern's proposal, ESPN reports that the terms in the offer don't match the Canadian's demands.

Real Madrid and Bayern are said to have a strong relationship, but the Spanish club is unwilling to overpay. Madrid are only willing to pay up to €40 million for Davies this summer.

Signing Davies would be a continuation of an already impressive transfer window for the European champions. With Mbappe, who joined on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, and possibly Davies, Real Madrid will be even stronger favorites to repeat as La Liga and Champions League winners in 2024-25.

Meanwhile, Davies' potential arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu would likely spell the end of Ferland Mendy's career in the Spanish capital. Madrid were reportedly willing to part with the French left-back last summer but didn't receive any suitable offers.
