Makhachev calls McGregor 'chicken' for canceling fight with toe injury
Warning: Story contains coarse language
UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev took the opportunity to make fun of Conor McGregor after finding out the nature of the injury that forced McGregor off UFC 303.
McGregor revealed Friday he suffered a broken toe in early June, causing the former two-division champion to pull out of his highly anticipated comeback fight against Michael Chandler on June 29 in Las Vegas.
In an X post, Makhachev suggested that McGregor should've remained on the card.
You don’t need a pinkie toe for a fight lol. Chicken 🐓

A few others in the MMA world - including UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria and former lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos - reacted to McGregor's injury on social media:
You are mentally broken. That is your biggest lesson. You doubt yourself, your abilities, your preparation, that's why you don't show up. You are a bitch. https://t.co/1Uy9YaLSqK

That’s the difference between me and you Conor, you finally got exposed. You got a pinky toe injury while I got a broken foot. Let me know what you guys think on the comments below. https://t.co/q79Do4eLnL pic.twitter.com/iiH1RRMKIS

I saw so much shit about why Conor pulled out of the fight and most of it was FAKE NEWS! Just like the reason why I was pulled from UFC 303!!!!

The UFC intends to reschedule McGregor-Chandler later in 2024, though a date hasn't been set. McGregor said Friday the injury will take a few weeks to heal.
