Report: Reddick won't report to Jets' camp amid desire for reworked deal
New York Jets pass-rusher Haason Reddick is holding out of training camp amid hopes for a reworked contract, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The 29-year-old Reddick is due $14.25 million in base salary this coming season in the final campaign of a three-year, $45-million contract he signed in 2022. Reddick will be fined $50,000 for each day he misses training camp under the league's collective bargaining agreement. The fines can't be waived.
Reddick has been seeking a new deal since he was acquired by the Jets in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2026 conditional third-round pick March 29.
The 2017 first-round pick has skipped every phase of the team's offseason workouts. At the time of the trade, the Jets believed Reddick would be willing to play out the final year of his deal, per ESPN's Rich Cimini.
The Jets made Reddick a contract offer before acquiring him from the Eagles, which included a raise this season, sources told SNY TV's Connor Hughes. Reddick declined the offer.
New York then reportedly said the team needed to see him play before he received a greater raise. However, the Jets apparently offered to make adjustments to his current deal in the meantime, including incentives.
Reddick said he was on board with the arrangement and that he'd join the offseason program, minicamp, and training camp, Hughes reports. Now, the Jets reportedly don't know when he'll rejoin the team and aren't willing to make any negotiations until he comes back.
The two-time Pro Bowler has flourished as a pass-rusher in recent years, recording 50.5 sacks over the last four seasons. He began his career as an off-ball linebacker with the Arizona Cardinals.
Reddick is expected to line up alongside a formidable Jets defensive line that features Quinnen Williams and Jermaine Johnson.
