Denver Broncos legend John Elway has regrets about passing on Josh Allen during his time as the team's general manager.

During an appearance on the "Pardon My Take" podcast, Elway admitted he made a mistake by not selecting the quarterback with the No. 5 overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.

"Last year I played (golf) with him, and I'm wondering, 'How long is it going to take him to realize that I passed on him and took (defensive end) Bradley Chubb instead?'" Elway said. "And it took him two-and-a-half holes.

"And I loved him, right? Just, you know, didn't work out. He was my type (of quarterback) ... that was probably my biggest mistake of my GM days, was not taking Josh."

Allen was instead drafted two picks later by the Buffalo Bills, with whom he's posted a 63-30 record as a starter and made five straight playoff appearances.

Chubb spent four-and-a-half seasons in Denver, recording 144 tackles, 26 sacks, and an interception in 49 games and earning Pro Bowl honors in 2020. He was traded to the Miami Dolphins midway through the 2022 season.
