Dodgers' Ryan out for season with UCL strain
The Los Angeles Dodgers' battered rotation has taken another hit.
Dodgers right-hander River Ryan will miss the rest of the season with an elbow injury, manager Dave Roberts said Sunday, per MLB.com's Juan Toribio.
Tests revealed Ryan strained the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow, Roberts said following Sunday's game, according to Eric Stephen of True Blue LA. The severity of the strain is unclear, and the next steps in his treatment are still being determined.
Ryan exited Saturday's start against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the fifth inning with right forearm tightness.

"It's very concerning," Roberts said, according to Baseball America's Kyle Glaser. "We clearly don't have the answers to take care of pitchers and keep them healthy. I think that the industry is doing the best they can to manage workload, manage pitch counts, but clearly, we don't have it nailed, so I don't know what the answer is."
The Dodgers recalled right-hander Landon Knack to take Ryan's spot on the roster.
The 26-year-old joins Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Walker Buehler on the injured list. The Dodgers were also without left-hander Clayton Kershaw until July 25 as he recovered from offseason shoulder surgery.
Ryan finishes his rookie campaign with a 1.33 ERA, a 3.37 FIP, and 7.97 K/9 across 20 1/3 innings.
