Report: 'Friday Night Lights' reboot in the works

"Friday Night Lights" is reportedly getting a reboot.

Universal Television is working on a new iteration of the football drama series, with the original team of director Pete Berg, showrunner Jason Katims, and producer Brian Grazer all attached to the project, Matthew Belloni of Puck reports.

The reboot will feature different characters than the original but will still center around high school football in Texas, according to Belloni. It's reportedly attracted three bidders thus far.

The original "Friday Night Lights," which was based on the 1990 novel by H.G. Bissinger and the 2004 film of the same name, followed a high school football team in the fictional West Texas town of Dillon. It starred Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Zach Gilford, Minka Kelly, and Michael B. Jordan, among others.

The show premiered in October 2006 and ran for five seasons on NBC and DirecTV's 101 Network.
